Important Announcement

We would like to thank our loyal fellow members of the Nike Historical Society for your continued support over the years. We will be closing the Society, including the store, as of March 31, 2024. We have acquired a large repository of Nike technical information. The web site will continue to be available. It has been our pleasure to keep the legacy of the Nike missile's contribution of the successful conclusion to the Cold War.

DESCRIPTION
Everglades National Park houses one of the best preserved relics of the Cold War in Florida, a historic Nike Hercules missile site called "Alpha Battery" or "HM69".

Step into the Cold War for a volunteer-run open house of the historic Nike Missile Site, HM69. See an actual missile and many of the original support buildings. Guided tours begin at the Daniel Beard Center and are conducted most afternoons between December and March. Accessible, 0.7 miles, Open House is 4 hours.

On the fee-free day of Veteran's Day, Friday November 11, 2022, we will host a special event commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis. This event is free and opened to the public! We will have special guests speak to the public about the Cuban Missile Crisis, the legacy of the Cold War, and the Nike Missile soldier experience in the Everglades. We will also have actual Nike Missile Veterans do a Question and Answer session to educate visitors about their time of duty in the glades. We will celebrate their achievements and talk about preservation, and how future generations can remember the Cold War.

Additionally, a ranger-led tour of the HM-69 Nike Missile Base will be offered at 2PM or a self-guided, volunteer-led open house of the missile base will be available for visitors from 10AM-2PM.

Come and celebrate our Nike Missile Veterans with us!
